We've got an amazing list of personalised romantic gifts sure to impress your sweetheart. Give her something she'll cherish forever on this special occasion.

When another romantic occasion like your anniversary or Valentine's Day is upon you, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out how to honour that special woman in your life.

Chocolates, plush toys or jewellery are the usual go-to, and any of those may fill the order of the day. But this year, what if you think outside the box with more personalised romantic gifts?

Women want to feel special. And giving them a personalised gift will tell them that you've gone that extra mile to make both the gift and the day truly special.

And don't worry. You needn't to be a master of arts and crafts to deliver that personalised touch.

There are many ways to make personalised romantic gifts that will show how much you care.

And we've got ten ideas right here that will score you extra points with your girlfriend or wife.

1. Neon-dipped flowerpot

We're starting simple here, guys.

If your girlfriend or wife is big into gardening, she probably has her favourites when it comes to flowers. So rather than handing her a bouquet, dress things up a bit.

Take a simple ceramic flowerpot and paint it her favourite color. You can use painter's tape to add colour to just the bottom or top for a colour-block look.

Then pop in her favourite flower or succulent to brighten up your home.

2. Candy necklace

This one has the market cornered on simplicity and would make a nice personalised romantic gift addition to something special like an Eternity Rose.

Before handing her the Eternity Rose, you present her with a necklace of gummy rings threaded on a licorice lace. The necklace should have 7 or 8 gummy rings.

Take a piece of sturdy cardstock and write something meaningful on it - something from your heart, or a poem or quotation she likes. Then cut a half-inch slit on each side of it.

Thread the finished necklace through the slits, leaving the excess licorice on the back of the card to tie into a loose bow. Place it in a box that she can open.

3. Scratch-off tickets

This one is pretty easy and kind of cool.

Here's what you'll need:

- Heavy Paper

- White Crayon

- Acrylic Paint

- Dishwashing Soap

Take some cardstock and cut it into a lottery sized card (or cards if you're going for the gusto).

Make three circles on each card and write the ‘gifts’ in each circle. The gifts will be things you will do for her, like give her a foot massage or take her out to dinner.

Colour over each gift with white crayon to leave a heavy layer.

Mix 2 parts acrylic paint with 1 part dish-washing soap and paint over the handwritten gifts and let it dry. Then on the special day, simply give her a coin.

She'll think you're a cheapskate until you hand her the card and she scratches off the paint to reveal her gifts.

4. Spa in a jar

Okay. It's obviously not a full-on spa treatment.

But it's the ultimate in personalised romantic gifts and super easy to put together.

Simply find a nice glass jar and fill it with special bath and body products that she loves. Pick out all of her favourite brands and scents to show how much you've been paying attention to and thinking about her!

This spa gift is quick and useful while still being meaningful.

5. Homemade therapeutic bath salts

Give her the gift of relaxation that will also leave her skin feeling soft and smooth.

Here's what you'll need:

- 1 cup Epsom salts

- 1 cup sea salt

- 4 tin containers

- 5-6 drops of essential oils

Mix the two different salts in a bowl and then scoop the salt mixture into the small containers.

Add 5–6 drops of essential oils and place the lid back on and shake. Choose oils like relaxing lavender, refreshing lemon or orange, invigorating peppermint, etc. and then label the tins with those qualities.

She simply adds the entire tin to a full bath of water and escapes.

6. Foot soak

In the same spirit as the therapeutic bath salts comes the foot soak.

If the special woman in your life spends a lot of time on her feet, she'll love this personalised romantic gift.

For this one you'll need:

- 2 cups of Epsom salts

- 1/2 cup baking soda

- 3-4 drops of lime essential oil

- 3-4 drops of peppermint essential oil

- zest of one lime

Stir all of the ingredients with a wooden spoon to mix thoroughly. Then pour the mixture into a special jar hand-picked for her.

Be sure she uses these in a few weeks and if you're using the lime zest, you'll want to store it in a cool dark place or a refrigerator.

7. Pretzel Match Valentines

Let her know how she sets your heart on fire with this box of pretzel rods.

Box of pretzel rods? That doesn't sound very romantic.

Maybe not. So that's why you'll make a "matchbox" from a flat, narrow box, and cover it with paper. Write or illustrate your special message on the cover.

Then get a bag of pretzel rods and red chocolate melting wafers from a crafts store. Melt the wafers in a double boiler and dip just the tips of the pretzel rods in.

Let them dry on a baking sheet covered in wax paper, then place them in the box. Keep them cool.

8. Paper heart garland

This one requires a little more crafty know-how, as it will go much faster with a sewing machine and large heart-shaped paper punches.

But you can do this old-school with needle and thread and scissors too, if you have the time and patience.

You'll cut as many hearts as you want and then write special messages on a few of them. Using red or pink thread, sew the hearts together vertically and hang from a light or in a door way. Kind of like mistletoe!

9. Romantic playing cards

If your special girl is into cards (or a full-fledged card shark), she'll love this.

The three main things you'll need for this are a deck of cards, a good deal of time and a lot of brain power.

You'll also need some Modge Podge (an all-in-one glue, sealer and finish), a paintbrush, a hole punch and binder rings.

First step is to think up 52 inside jokes or things you love or appreciate about your wife or girlfriend and write them on pieces of paper small enough to fit onto a card.

Glue the messages to the playing cards.

Using a paintbrush, paint Modge Podge on the cards and let them dry.

Once dry, hole punch the cards and then line them up to create a book out of them using the binder rings.

She'll be so touched.

10. Special message photo banner

If you have a lot of pictures on your phone of the two of you together, this is a great idea for Valentine's Day or any other romantic occasion.

Decide what message you'd like to present as a banner. Then upload the chosen photos you want to use and find an app like Afterlight that will turn them into the letters needed for that message.

Then you just save the photos, print them and hang them up.

So there you have it. If you have any other DIY personalised romantic gifts you'd like to share, let us know!

I would love to hear your comments or answer any questions you might have about this post.
